Dance Cardio 

One of the biggest fitness trends that swept the eighties was dance cardio, such as aerobics and Jazzercise. These workouts typically involved a lot of rhythmic movement with dancing and stretching, providing a challenging full-body workout that kept our parents looking svelte. Today, more updated versions of these exercises can be found in Zumba classes, a type of dance cardio workout that switches between high and low-intensity moves designed to get your heart pumping. 

Karate 

While the ancient practice of martial arts has been around for hundreds of years, Karate was all the rage in the eighties (hello, Karate Kid!). It seemed like everyone was learning Karate, moving through the ranks to eventually achieve that coveted Black Belt title. These days, other kinds of martial arts have also become popular forms of exercise, with some of the most practiced being Jiu Jitsu, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), and Muay Thai. Choose one that interests you and find a gym nearby that teaches it! 

Home Gyms 

Back in the eighties, it seemed like everyone had a home gym. Whether it was an old weight bench in the garage or a fully-stocked room in the basement, home gyms allowed people to workout without having to leave the house!
